He then was commissioned a Naval Flight Surgeon, and served with the Marine Corps Air wing for two years before returning to San Francisco. A distinguished clinician, Dr. Kapla has served as a clinical teaching faculty member of University of California San Francisco since 1978. He currently holds the academic title of Clinical Professor of Family and Community Medicine at UCSF. He has provided guidance and assistance to the medical community through a number of leadership positions as a member of the California Medical Association as well as a member of the Board of Directors for the San Francisco Medical Society. Additionally he is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice and a member of the American Academy of HIV medicine. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Bay Area Physicians for Human Rights and their philanthropic foundation board.
Practicing medicine for over 30 years, Dr. Kapla is licensed in California. His noteworthy compassion and warmth extend beyond the office walls. Aside from being an avid outdoorsman and equestrian, Dr. Kapla is a chef and a lover of food, wine, ballet, and classical music. He resides in San Francisco with his husband, Mark. They have two dogs: Pochi and Sakuya and two horses: Chumleei and Eddie. Both Dr. Kapla and his husband are strong advocates in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and trans-gendered community. |
William (Bill) Kapla, M.D. is Board Certified and a Diplomat of the American Academy of Family Practice. He received his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Colorado in 1965 and earned his MD from the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine in 1969. He performed his medical residency at Presbyterian Hospital in San Francisco, California from 1969-1971. Following his residency at Presbyterian Hospital, Dr. Kapla completed a six month residency at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in Pensacola, Florida. |
